Gaming Chairs vs. Office Chairs | The 4 Definitive Differences

TLDR: Gaming chairs offer advanced options, customizable styling, are better for your body positioning, and usually come at a cheaper cost than office chairs!

It’s a myth that only gamers need gaming chairs. In fact, studies show that the average person spends 8 hours in front of their computer each day and even if you don’t game, this can cause health problems like neck pain or back strain.

This is because office chairs are designed for sitting at desks all day while gaming chairs are designed to be used in an active environment where users will actually stand up and move around periodically. That means that even if you’re no gamer, there are plenty of reasons why you would want to get a gaming chair over an office chair!

Specifically: Gaming Chairs offer advanced options, customizable styling, better body positioning with more cushioning, and usually come at a cheaper cost than office chairs.

With that said, let’s explore the rationale behind each of these 4 points!

1: Gaming Chairs have a lot more functionality than office chairs!

In an office chair, you don’t get much more than just a place to sit, although we do realize that is the centric point of a chair! In gaming chairs, however, there are many additional benefits you can get depending on which brand or model you choose.

While the most common would be the back lumbar support and neck attachments, other cool features include things like:

  • Bluetooth Headsets
  • LED Lighting
  • Foot Rests
  • Material and Stitching Choices

Depending on how you plan to use your chair, these options will serve as a personalized way for you to take your gaming experience to the next level!

2: Gaming Chairs are better for Cervical/Lumbar support than office chairs!

Alright, we all know computer chairs can be a pain in the neck, back, and rear end! On great benefit about gaming chairs is that they tend to come with adjustable lumbar support options.

Because of this, based on studies, we see a lot less neck and lower back pain in gaming chairs as opposed to office chairs. While I’m not saying that no one in offices would benefit from this, it’s common for people to get stuck in their chairs all day and over time they tend to develop muscle weakness in the corresponding areas.

Just by sitting up straight, you can prevent some serious physical issues down the road. With gaming chairs, they offer much more support than your typical office chair does – helping you get ahead of your performance in-game!

3: Office Chairs are more expensive than gaming chairs!

Regardless of the high-quality materials gaming chairs offer, office chairs still tend to be more expensive – and the verdict will always be out on why! But for now, consider this!

The typical mid-range gaming chair ranges from $100 to $200, while premium gaming chairs can range from $300 to $500+.

With that being said, high-quality office chairs can start in the $500 range and go as high as $1000, depending on your needs. Especially if they are touted as ergonomic office chairs.

Before you run out and buy a gaming chair, however, make sure to thoroughly research and evaluate your needs. While $300 – $500 is cheaper, it is still an investment – but at least it’s one that will cover your butt in the long run! Literally!

4: Office Chairs don’t always look as cool as gaming chairs!

This may seem silly, but it’s important to think about the overall aesthetic of your workstation.

Asking yourself questions like will an office chair fit in with the rest of your setup?

Personally, I prefer a gaming chair because I don’t feel that my office chair really fits in with my RGB setup – as opposed to a gaming chair which just kind of looks cool all on its own!

While this point is definitely up for debate, if you’re here, you will most likely agree!

In conclusion….

When it comes to office chairs vs gaming chairs I think the choice is pretty clear! This probably means you should opt at your next office meeting to express the importance of your productivity in correlation with one!
