Top 10 League of Legends Players: LoL eSports Best Athletes

Welcome to the Technophile Today eSports official Ranking of the Top 10 League of Legends players

There are hundreds of professional League of Legends players playing in several leagues around the world, but there are a handful of players who can transcend even the top level of competition and rise above their peers.

The top 10 League of Legends players on this list were selected based on ability, pedigree, current level of performance, skill ceiling, and consistency.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the top 10 League of Legends players power rankings:

10. Soren “Bjergsen” Bjerg – TSM – Mid Lane

Soren “Bjergsen” Bjerg League of Legends Top Player

When all is said and done, TSM’s man in the mid lane may go down as the greatest western League of Legends player of all time.  Despite being shouldered with solo-carrying TSM for the majority of his career, Bjergsen has remained resilient and enjoyed a long career, showing no signs of slowing down.  While he didn’t have the sharpest split of his career this past spring, Bjergsen has remained a top competitor individually for several years both domestically and internationally.

Bjergsen makes our top 10 League of Legends players list because he showed new peaks at the Season 6 World Championship.  With Peng “Doublelift” Yiliang back in the lineup this summer, look for Bjergsen to soar to even greater heights with Doublelift handling the primary shotcalling and leadership role in TSM once again.

9. Kim “Deft” Hyuk-yu – KT Rolster – Bot Lane

Returning from a 2 year stint in China with EDward Gaming, everyone’s favorite alpaca has found a comfortable new home on the supercharged roster of KT Rolster.  Partnered with Cho “Mata” Se-Hyeong in the bot lane, Deft serves as the primary damage dealer in arguably the greatest on paper roster constructed in League of Legends history.   KT’s current roster was formed with one goal: dethrone SK Telecom T1.  Whether Deft can perform like one of the top 10 League of Legends players or not is a huge factor in accomplishing that goal.

8. Song “RooKie” Eui-jin – Invictus Gaming – Mid Lane

Song “RooKie” Eui-jin League of Legends

Out of all of the players on our top 10 League of Legends players list, RooKie is without a doubt the least celebrated of the bunch. RooKie burst on to the scene with the KT Rolster Arrows in 2014, and has lived up to his nickname of “Faker Jr.” ever since. Despite maintaining an extremely high level of play for the entirety of his career, RooKie has spent the majority of his career out of the spotlight. Ever since moving to China to join LPL Squad Invictus Gaming, RooKie has been the shining star on many a subpar roster. Invictus Gaming was trounced at Season 5 Worlds, and that was the last time they were anything close to a contender.

Still, Rookie maintains a top level of play regardless of his teammates. However, one has to wonder if he would be higher on our top 10 League of Legends players list if he had remained in South Korea.

7. Cho “Mata” Se-Hyeong – KT Rolster – Support

Mata is the greatest support player in the history of League of Legends.  He’s also one of the greatest shotcallers in history, and almost certainly a top 3 player of all time.

Mata comes in at #7 on our top 10 League of Legends players list because while his legacy as a leader has grown, his mechanics have fallen off over the years.  Deft and Mata are almost certainly the greatest bot lane ever assembled in terms of pure skill, and yet they’ll occasionally have games like this one.

Mata’s time with Vici Gaming and Royal Never Give Up! in China certainly made him more aggressive than he was as a Season 4 World Champion on Samsung Galaxy White.  However, that has come at the cost of some polish.  Still, when it comes to the top 10 League of Legends players in the world, Mata is the only support on the list for good reason.

6. Han “Peanut” Wang-Ho – SK Telecom T1 – Jungle

After beginning his career on the mismanaged disaster that was the twilight years of the Najin organization, Peanut enjoyed a meteoric rise to League of Legends superstardom, joining the ROX Tigers for LCK Season 6 and immediately inserting himself in the conversation of best Jungler in the world.

Peanut found his new home on SK Telecom T1 after the 2016 Tigers disbanded.  On his new team, look for Peanut to rise on the top 10 League of Legends players list as he chases the elusive World Championship Trophy.

5. Bae “Bang” Jun-Sik – SK Telecom T1 – Bot Lane

Bae “Bang” Jun-Sik League of Legends Top Player

A model of consistency, Bang has been SKT’s rock for the majority of his career, often serving as the primary carry in several team comps despite sharing a squad with the greatest player in LoL history.

While Bang is often overlooked as the best Korean AD Carry of all time in favor of Deft or Kim “Pray” Jong-In, he has bested both of them several times in recent memory and looks to solidify himself as the best ADC in history.   While he may reach that goal at some point in his career, spending the majority of his career on star-studded rosters keeps Bang from soaring any higher than #5 on our top 10 League of Legends players list.

4. Lee “Crown” Min-ho – Samsung Galaxy – Mid Lane

Lee “Crown” Min-ho League of Legends Top Player

When it comes to the mid lane, Crown is second in the world only to Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, and is widely considered to be the most mechanically gifted player in the world.  Crown spent the past six months of his career reaching a new peak of his already massive talent, taking SKT to 5 games at the 2016 World Championship and besting Faker for the 2017 LCK Spring MVP award.  He’s the best Viktor player in the history of the game, and no one else is particularly close.

Of all of the talent on our top 10 League of Legends players list, Crown’s story is by far the most bizarre.  Beginning his career in Brazil as “Shadow”, Crown joined Samsung Galaxy as a mid lane substitute during their 2015 rebuild.  As Samsung returned to power, Crown grew with them, becoming one of the most electric players to ever hit the rift.

Crown’s MVP award this spring was well deserved.   Without him, Samsung would be a bottom tier LCK team.  While length of time at the top stops him from slotting higher on our top 10 League of Legends players list, the amount of games he hard carries for his team deserves recognition.

No one does more with less than Crown.

3. Go “Score” Dong-Bin – KT Rolster – Jungle

When KT Rolster built their super team for LCK Season 7, Score was the only player left from previous iterations.  Despite not being as flashy as Peanut or as well-known as Chinese superstar Ming “Clearlove7” Kai, Score has been nothing short of excellent, quietly performing as the best jungler in the world for over a year.

Remember, up until 2015, he was an AD Carry player!  Dominance in two roles for such lengthy periods of time alone would warrant a spot on our top 10 League of Legends players list.

Known for his big game clutch performances, Score may be the best player in League of Legends history to never win an LCK title.  He came up inches short, dragging an underperforming KT Rolster to the finish line in the Korea Regional Qualifier for the 2016 World Championship only to be defeated by Samsung Galaxy in a 3-2 upset.

With the new super KT, Score may finally be on his way to an LCK Championship and beyond.

2. Song “Smeb” Kyung-ho – KT Rolster – Top Lane

Smeb was in contention for the worst Top Laner in LCK history.  That is, until he was in contention for the best Top Laner of all time.

Smeb turned around his career in Season 5, coming out of nowhere with a ragtag band of outcasts called the HUYA Tigers who went on to be one of the best teams in LoL history.

Smeb can do it all.  He’s a top performer on both carries and tanks, as well as shotcalling from the top side of the map which explains his excellent usage of teleport.  He makes #2 on our top 10 League of Legends player list because he is the only player to ever truly challenge Faker for the title of best player in the world.

Smeb is the crown jewel of the KT Rolster super team.  With carry top laners like his signature Kennen being prevalent in the current metagame, expect several career-defining performances from Smeb in the months to come.

1. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok – SK Telecom T1 – Mid Lane

Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok League of Legends Top Player

Seriously, did you expect anyone else?

You could write a novel on Faker’s greatness at this point.  Not only is he the best player to ever play the game, there’s a very strong likelihood that no one will ever come close to taking that title from him.  He’s simply been otherworldly.

Faker has mastery of countless champions, and is the best player in history on several of them.  Since the start of his career in 2013, he has missed a single World Championship in Season 4.

The three World Championships he HAS attended? He’s won all three, with different teammates on each roster.

In a field where the average career is about two years, Faker has been the undisputed greatest player in League of Legends for the past four years, and shows no signs of slowing down.   He has the most major domestic and international titles of any player to ever play League of Legends, and he’s going to get many more before he’s done.  He just turned 21 last month.

The #1 spot on our top 10 League of Legends players list was the easiest of them all.  There is Faker, and then there is everyone else.

Say, there sure are a lot of Korean players on this list.  Maybe they’re onto something with their unique rune selection!
